How do you feel about yarn bowls?

Updated: Mar 9, 2023

Happy Saturday, Crafties! Today I want to talk about yarn bowls! As you know, I've put out a line of my ceramic work in the shop recently in the form of Crochet Hook Jars. This has come about after years of trying to successfully blend my art life and my craft biz life together. Being able to make non-conventional works of art that also relate to the fiber arts community I've been building over the last 5 years has brought a fresh wave of inspiration.

A few weeks ago, I started making reels and shorts to show off my hook jars. A member of my YT community asked if I'd made yarn bowls before.

If I'm being honest, I've never indulged in them. Most of the projects that I make as a designer are large garments, blankets, and accessories. So it never seemed like a practical thing to have in the studio for me.

Nonetheless, the idea was a good one so, I set out to play with it between my class assignments and here's what I got:

Here are some early stage porcelain pieces that (fingers crossed) I'll have glazed and ready to go by the end of May.

I'll be heading in to the studio to trim all the new pieces and prep them for firing at some point. What do you all think? Leave me your comments below!
